Good Plant-based reads
1. 365 Days of Wholeness
This was the first book that I read that opened my eyes to the world of whole food, plant-based eating. It is written by Matt Bate & Tegan Steele. Matt is an ex- AFL player from the Melbourne Demons, and he discusses how changing to a whole food plant-based diet really changed how he felt and reduced his amount of injuries. It looks into ways to living a more energetic and healthy lifestyle from cleaning products to foods you consume. Definitely a must read.
2. The Engine 2 – Seven-Day Rescue Diet
I was listening to a podcast with Rip Esselstyn, discussing his father and how he was raised on a whole foods plant-based diet. He was talking about how he changed his fire stations health outcomes by consuming a plant-based diet. He then decided to write one of many books. This one is great. It first discusses all the benefits of living off a whole food plant-based diet and then gives you some delicious recipes that are quick and simple. He also delves into all the nitty grittys on how you get all the appropriate macro and micro nutrients from eating this way.
3. The Starch Solution
Another great book, which is based on weight-loss using a whole food plant-based diet. He gives you the ins and outs of plate formation to achieve a slimmer waist and how to structure your meals accordingly. There are many people on youtube that follow this way of eating and have lost substantial weight. I follow many of them and its always great to get some new recipe ideas.
4. Fibre Fueled
I got to listen to this great book in audible. It was a wonderful listen, discussing how important fibre is for our digestive system and weight loss. It promotes the benefits of a whole foods plant-based diet and why you should incorporate it into each of your meals.
5. Cooking with Kindness
I love this cook book. I use it allllll the time. The recipes can be a little complex at times as it uses recipes from actual chefs but they are worth it. They taste just amazing and definitely worth the money. Even better, “Edgar’s Mission” put this book together and the proceeds go to supporting their mission which is to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need.
6. The Forks Over Knives Plan
This book gives you a step by step guide to convert to a whole foods plant-based diet. It eases you into changing each meal and gives you set meal plans and recipes. It’s a great way to start your whole foods plant-based journey.
